Greenwich, CT Area Guide

General Information
Greenwich is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut and has a population of over 60,000 residents. Greenwich is just 37 minutes away from Manhattan by train, and is the southernmost and westernmost municipality of the state. In 2005 CNN/Money and Money Magazine ranked Greenwich as 12th on the list of the 100 Best Places to Live in the nation.

History

The Town of Greenwich was settled in 1640 and was incorporated in 1665. Originally Greenwich Point (known by locals as “Tod’s Point”) was open only to town residents and their guests, but a lawyer eventually sued claiming that is freedom was threatened because he was not allowed entry. The lower courts disagreed, but the decision was overruled by the Supreme Court of Connecticut, and now all four beaches in Greenwich are accessible by the public.
